To be translucent, light does not pass directly through a medium: it changes direction and is scattered as it passes through. It is neither opaque nor transparent – thus to be translucent means to glow subtly, to blush luminously.

For Llewelyn, working in glass brings physical dimension to this sense of light. Glass obviously easily lends itself to luminosity and translucence, but still requires great skill and insight to capture the subtle essence of the natural world that is Llewelyn’s passion. As an avid surfer, the natural world and especially the ocean is a theme to which he is powerfully drawn: water, glass, flow and layers.
