Personal history is not a fixed, hard-and-fast reading of the past. Often my work tries to make sense of something that can barely be grasped. In the act of making, I am engaging in what is present, and also what is absent; those things that can only be retrieved by the subtle work of the quiet studio. In that sense, the studio becomes its own entity.
